Sacked Out?

Babysack_3

It's dark, you hear screams, you enter and there she is…straddling the railing of her crib, clinging for dear life, neither in nor out, all 20 months of her balanced on a Netto oak side rail.  It’s a nasty drop.

So you rescue her, take her into bed and lie there thinking, What am I going to do now?

I thought Madelyn was a little too young for a daybed with railing or a toddler bed.  I didn’t like the idea of her wandering around alone in her room if she got up when we were still asleep.  And frankly, I had gotten used to being able to put her to bed and have her stay there.

A mother of twin boys told me about a tent structure you can attach to the top of a crib.  You zip ‘em in every night and they enjoy it.  It is as if each one has his very own little house.

Something about it didn’t work for me though.  Maybe it was all those rotten camping trips?  Probably it was all the frogs, salamanders, and snakes I’d kept as a child in boxes with mesh lids.   I just couldn’t zip her in.

Enter THE SACK.  The marvelous sack.  The XL or XXL sack.  The cozy, lovely can’t-get-out-of-your-crib-in-a-sack sack.  I zip her in every night after we read our books.  She sleeps well.  I sleep well.  And that boom in the night isn’t her hitting the floor.

Sleeping sacks available online or at Babies R Us.  Halo has XL and 2-3 year old options.  If you are crafty, select the baby sleep sack pattern from Kwik Sew and try to sew your own.
