The Serena and Lily Loft Crib and Changer/Dresser by Netto Collection were featured on a dramatic give-away Friday afternoon on a special Mother's Day episode on the Ellen Degeneres Show.  A lucky mother of twins was given two cribs and one changer/dresser on the show.  She gave birth to her twins on Monday.

Netto Collection “adopts” three polar bears from the World Wildlife Fund. Make your “adoption” today and we’ll match it.

Nettobear_2

The polar bear has been making lots of news lately.  Recently a federal court ordered the Bush administration to decide by May 15th whether the animal deserves protection under the Endangered Species Act.

According to the World Wildlife Fund, some polar bears are already starving as a result of changing arctic conditions believed to be caused by global warming.  According to the National Snow and Ice Data Center, there was less sea ice covering the Arctic Ocean last summer than has ever been reported.  Polar bears rely on this sea ice to hunt.  Others insist that with an estimated 20,000 polar bears in the Arctic, the animals are hardly under threat.

And yet the scientific evidence is pretty convincing.

Netto Collection wants polar bears fat and happy so we have begun supporting the World Wildlife Fund’s efforts to protect the polar bear and its habitat. For the month of May, Netto Collection will match any polar bear adoption gifts by you.  Just send of a receipt of proof of WWF adoption and we’ll adopt another polar bear thru June 8th.  Send to info@nettocollection.com

Cribs to California

Kids_2

This week NettoCollection participated in the K.I.D.S. San Diego Fire Relief effort, with a donation of cribs for immediate shipment to the San Diego area. Here’s is the JPMA’s call for support:

“Kids In Distressed Situations, Inc. (K.I.D.S.), a longstanding partner of JPMA, is already hard at work to make this incredibly difficult time easier for the families and children.  K.I.D.S. is soliciting product to aid the victims, and juvenile products are in high demand.  Everything from clothes to cribs, pacifiers, bottles, bibs, blankets and more are being collected.  With the help of global charity World Vision, K.I.D.S. will distribute the product to families in need, particularly in San Diego.  JPMA is asking you to consider donating to the relief efforts through K.I.D.S.  Although it is too early to know the full extent of the damage, the impact of the wildfires will be felt for many years.  During this traumatic time, JPMA is hoping members will provide products to families and children who so desperately need it.”

Good Causes: TCF

Milestones_main

Here is an organization that is doing real good in a tough environment:

My sisters and I spent a long time developing a charitable giving plan after we sold our family business.  We wanted to support a cause that could make a tangible difference in an area neglected by mainstream charities.  The three of us believed very strongly in the need for education and women’s rights in the developing world, especially in Muslim countries.  We were introduced to The Citizen’s Foundation (TCF) by a friend of ours from Pakistan.

TCF is devoted to building and running primary and secondary schools in poor urban and rural areas of Pakistan.  Started by concerned citizens in 1995, they are non-governmental and extremely well run.  So far, they have opened about 450 schools all around Pakistan, all purpose built with libraries, art rooms, play areas… All faculty members are women, usually transported each day from the nearest (often not so near) big city.  The student body is about 50% girls, which is remarkable for that part of the world.  To make sure the parents of students are committed to educating their kids, each parent must pay tuition, even if it is only a dime.

I am proud to say my family is sponsoring the building of three schools in rural Pakistan.  I will post some pix of the schools shortly when they are open.  Take a look at their web site: The Citizen's Foundation.  It is quite encouraging to see some of the stuff going on in a part of the world from which we usually get only bad news.
